The January 6th situation has become personal…read on to learn a little more.
I started writing to J6ers not long after a conversation I had with a semi-co-worker. She seemed to have the idea that the J6ers were the Nazis in a comparison to the Holocaust (maybe I misunderstood?). I didn’t know much about the situation, and I’m not a big fan of confrontation; I didn’t really say a whole lot. I later discussed the situation with a trusted source, and found out that really the J6ers have more in common with concentration camp residents if comparing January 6 to the Holocaust. (Who does that make the “Select Committee”?)
I started writing notes to the J6ers. Just little short notes, usually with a fairly vague encouragement and a Bible verse. I don’t think I really expected to hear back from any of them. Imagine the surprise when I did! I’ve now heard back from several of the guys, and I’m slowly working toward praying for and writing to more J6ers. These are real men (update: and women) being persecuted. I agree with Cara Castronuova that it really is like they have become friends of mine, and it’s become a very personal cause to me. I worry about these guys. I haven’t even met these guys; can you imagine how mothers, wives, and other family members must feel?
The guys in prison and jail are real men. A real father whose children haven’t seen him for over a year. A real husband whose wife is trying to keep the household together. A real son who couldn’t attend his father’s funeral. A real man who might not get to see his dog again. These guys aren’t just inmate numbers. And even though I’m focusing more on the guys in this post, don’t think women are safe from this persecution.
This experience has taught me a lot. The US prison system is clearly very broken. It likely has been for many years, but this has brought it to light and made it personal. Who would think that inmate mail would often be copied and then the inmate given a copy of the mail? (This doesn’t seem very green…) Who would think that the US prison system would allow inmates to be beaten or raped by guards? Who would think that in the US, citizens would be denied a speedy trial, denied access to legal council, and held in horrid pre-trial conditions for close to two years? Who would think that conditions in the Patriot Wing of the DC Gulag would be so bad that the patriots would request transfer to Guantanamo Bay?
I urge you to look further into the January 6 tragedy. And not Liz Cheney and her cronies’ vengeful sham of a trial. Look up these guys and gals. Consider sending a note and/or donating to their funds. Don’t let the elitist bullies stop you from being an encouragement. Most importantly, pray. Cover these families in prayer. And we should pray for those persecuting them too.
